Imaging in Vasculitis: Classification and Modalities
Vasculitis is classified by the calibre of vessel predominantly affected. Imaging modality selection should follow this classification directly.
Large vessel disease (aorta and major branches) is best assessed with CTA, MRA, or FDG-PET.
Medium vessel disease (renal, mesenteric, coronary arteries) is interrogated with CTA or DSA.
Small vessel disease (capillaries, venules) lies below the resolution of angiography; imaging findings are indirect.
