The "Eye of the Tiger" Sign of PKAN

The classic radiologic hallmark of Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neuropathy (PKAN) is the "Eye of the Tiger" sign.

Seen on T2-weighted brain MRI, it presents as symmetrical bilateral hypointensity in the globus pallidus (due to iron accumulation) surrounding a central dot of hyperintensity (due to gliosis and tissue necrosis).

This sign is highly specific and crucial for differentiating PKAN from other forms of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA).
