2023 PCOS Ultrasound Criteria
The 2023 International Evidence-Based Guidelines significantly updated the criteria for polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM):
Threshold: Polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM) is defined as >/= 20 follicles (2–9 mm diameter) in at least one ovary.
Ovarian Volume: Alternatively, an ovarian volume >/= 10 mL (in the absence of a dominant follicle, >10 mm) can be used to define PCOM.
Transducer: A transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) transducer with a frequency bandwidth including 8 MHz is preferred, particularly for adults.
Alternatives to Ultrasound: In adults, elevated Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels can now be used as an alternative to ultrasound.
