Signs of Orbital Blow-out Fractures

A direct blow to the globe can dramatically increase intraorbital pressure, fracturing the delicate orbital floor.

On standard occipitomental (OM) radiographs, this injury may only be visible through subtle signs like an opaque "teardrop" hanging from the roof of the maxillary antrum (representing herniated orbital fat and/or the inferior rectus muscle) or the "black eyebrow" sign (representing orbital emphysema from sinus air entering the orbit).
